Cedar Waxwing

My dad took this marvelous photo of cedar waxwings on our cedar trees.

  1. Pretty, looks like a cross between a cardinal and a gambel’s quail.

  2. Very nice catch! I am not a fan of these birds as I spent large chunks of my childhood summers chasing them out of our raspberries, or there’d be none for us.

  3. Awesome shot Mr. Kovnesky! Looks like they’re eating juniper berries. We love seeing these birds, which don’t come often, but when they do it’s usually a good-sized and noisy flock working busily at whatever wild berry they happen to find.

  4. I was corrected by a bird expert…this is a Bohemian Waxwing…a cousin of the cedar :) Nonetheless it sat upon one of our slow-growing cedar trees eating cedar berries. They DO love the berries. These guys are why we haven’t had a successful cherry crop yet.

I love you! Talk to me!
